Vision Document for textiles !
The Tamilnadu Government is in the process of preparing a vision document to identify and resolve issues concerning textile sector.Commissioner (Handloom and Textiles) M R Mohan has said that “The document, on the lines of the Center's textile vision, would be finalized during this fiscal, after discussions with various stakeholders in the sector “.
The document would touch various issues, aimed at growth of the state's textile sector, which has 40 to 50 per cent share of Indian textile industry, he said. He further said that, of the 1,200 handloom cooperative societies in the state, 900 were profit-making and efforts were on to bring the remaining in the profit zone.
Mr. Mohan was here to participate in the 5-day 'Texspares-2007,' event organised by Southern India Mills' Association. He said, the government has taken steps to train students from 20 ITIs in the state to meet the skilled manpower requirements of the textile sector. The government has already discussed with Industrial Leasing and Finance Service on the training issue. It was proposed to train 50,000 students in one year.
