Child rights campaign for school kids
About 3,000 students took part in nine-day programme organised here to create awareness about the rights of children and also the threats they face.Students from 15 schools attended the 'Child Rights Campaign Programme' from August 2 to 10, the Centre for Women's Studies (CWS) of Bharathiar University, its organisers, said.The children, from classes 6 to 8, were asked to appropriately exercise freedom of expression, which also included the freedom to seek and receive information and ideas of all kinds, in any form of their choice, a CWS release said.
All the needs of the children were highlighted, like in utilising and prioritising every type of available resource and the importance of the "right to life", it added.The children were also made aware of the need to have a name and nationality.They were also told about their right to know and receive care from parents, it said.They were instructed on the importance of appropriate legislative, administrative, social and educational measures to protect themselves from all forms of physical, mental violence, injury, abuse, neglect, maltreatment, exploitation and sexual abuse, CWS added.
