Corporation Schools offer English Medium !
School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu gave the nod for the Coimbatore Corporation to introduce kindergartens and English as one of the mediums of instruction in corporation elementary schools.The Minister was responding to the plea of mayor R Venkatachalam at the inaugural function of the ‘School Improvement Conference 2007’ at the Higher Secondary School at Ganapathy here on Tuesday The Minister said the government had set up language labs to improve English language skills of the students in 30 schools and it would be extended to all the schools across the State.Stating that Rs 350 crore was being spent on improving school education this year, the Minister said the basic infrastructure facilities would be improved in all schools.District Collector Neeraj Mittal said that they had planned to fulfill the basic infrastructure requirements of all schools in the district within six months.The Collector, who was not satisfied with the overall performance of education here, said the onus rests on the teachers to improve the quality of education, while the State would take care of the infrastructure facilities.
