BIS raid at water bottling units
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore, raided packaged water bottling unit and its marketing office at Thirumuruganpoondi in Avanashi and Tirupur respectively on Thursday.A release from P. Radhakrishna, Head of BIS, said that during the operation spuriously bottled water bottles with 20 litres capacity with bogus ISI markwater was seized. As per the provisions of BIS Act 1986 legal action would be initiated against the above manufacturer for misuse of BIS Standard Mark (ISI mark), the release said. The offence is punishable by imprisonment up to one year or fine up to Rs 50,000 or both.
BIS has appealed to the public that in case they across any case of misuse of ISI mark they are requested to intimate the details to Scientist-F and Head, Bureau of Indian Standards, Kovai Towers, 5th floor, Dr.Balasundaram Road, Coimbatore.
