Dance festival from today onwards


This is the eleventh year of the dance festival of Natyanjali organised by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore, Metropolis.And, September 21, 22 and 23 will see a classical dance extravaganza at Patteswarar Kovil, Perur.According to a release, it is an event that strives to keep alive India’s rich heritage of performing arts traditionally performed in temples in towns and villages.In the past, illustrious performers have danced at Natyanjali, and this year too there is plenty on offer for dance and music lovers.

On September 21, Pandanallur Bharatanatya Academy of Coimbatore presents a performance by the students of P. Ganapathiappa.This will be followed by a dance by Srikanth Aswathy and group of Chennai.Students of Mridula Rai of Sriniketan will conclude the day’s event with their dance.On September 22 is the dance drama “Parvathi Parinayam” put up by the shishyas of Sheela Unnikrishnan of Sri Devi Nrityalaya.A duet dance based on Karanas, called Ananda Narthana follows, performed by Mridula Rao and Somasekar of Bangalore.The final day’s proceedings begin with Meenakshi Sagar’s students from Aradhana School of Dance, Coimbatore putting up a show.Shiva Tandavas by the Chennai-based J. Surnanarayanamurthy Group.There is a Kathak performance by Nirupama Rajendra and group of Bangalore from the Abhinava Dance Company.The dance performances begin at 6 p.m. and conclude by 9 p.m. everyday. Entry is free.
