The production of sari and dhoti for distribution among the poor during the coming Pongal festival should be completed before November 30, Secretary for Handlooms and Khadi Viswanath Shegaonkar has said.He held a meeting to review the pace of production in Coimbatore. It was attended by District Collector Neeraj Mittal; Commissioner for Handlooms M.R. Mohan; and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers Cooperative Society M.P. Nirmala among others.Mr.Shegaonkar said that the State Government had issued orders for 164 lakh polycot saris and 164 lakh dhotis and Rs. 156 crore had been earmarked for the same. Assistant Director for Handlooms S. Vijaykumar said the production target would be met.
