Induction prog at Info Institute of Engineering
K. Kulandaivelu, former Chancellor of Avinashilingam University for Women, addressing students at the induction programme of Info Institute of Engineering at Kovilpalayam on Friday.Any country’s development is based on its educational system. Where there is no education, there is no development. It is the true yardstick by which one can measure the growth and development of a country, K. Kulandaivelu, former Chancellor of Avinashilingam University for Women, said on Friday.
Speaking at the first induction programme of engineering students of the Info Institute of Engineering at Kovilpalayam, he said that though education in India and Tamil Nadu had seen phenomenal growth, the volume of youth taking up higher education was only a mere 10 per cent. “The growth in education has largely been made possible by private participation.Government alone could not have achieved this growth.” Speaking on the deteriorating value systems in the present context, he said that education devoid of discipline and spiritualism would not result in development in the true sense. In earlier days when there was less education, morals and values were more underlined; but now, with more education, morals and values had taken the back seat.
He called for more meaningful education that would enable students to lead a moral and valued-based life. With plenty of opportunities, such an education would make students lead a successful life too, he said. “Youth strength is strong in India. World will derive its workforce in the next few years from India and China. Students should study well to enable them to be a part of this workforce. It is also important to give something back to the country that has given you so much”, Dr. Kulandaivelu said.
He urged the students to understand that it was not enough if they lived well; they should also pave the way for others to live well.K.K. Veluchamy, Chairman of the institute, said that the country had attained a status of plenty in food grains from a level of food shortage. This was possible through the engineering genius of the country. He exhorted students to put in maximum efforts to succeed in life. That would never lead to failure. “Learning should be a continuous process. It is important to accept constructive criticism for growth.” Principal V. Palanisamy and trustees C. Gopal and P. Arumugam spoke.
