Nano facility of BU will be at January

The proposed nano facility centre of Bharathiar University will take final shape in January when the stakeholders ink an agreement, said G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, here on Wednesday.“Bharathiar University will provide land, manpower and execute the project, the Defence and Research Development Organisation will fund the infrastructure, the University of Arkansas will help establish the centre, and the State Government will draw up final plans in January after the modalities about state funding is decided by the Chief Minister,” he told reporters after recent visit to the University of Arkansas in the U.S.

M. Naganathan, vice-chairman of the State Planning Commission too had accompanied him to the U.S. to finalise the technical details of the project.The Government was likely to be involved in the funding and setting up of a laboratory to work on the development of at least three nano-health products that would deal with the treatment of diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and heart attack.“Private players will be involved in the production and manufacture of the products,” said Dr. Thiruvasagam.He said: “Bharathiar University will become a member of the Global Nano Medicine Initiative (headed by former U.S. President Bill Clinton). The Initiative will aid the university in setting up a “clean room facility” at a cost of $ 500 million.The inauguration of the same is being planned for January and Mr. Clinton and the Chancellor of the University of Arkansas John A. White are expected to attend.”
