National award for Ponmani Industries

Exports of wet grinders from Coimbatore have gone up during the recent years, according to an official at the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute here.The official said that a number of wet grinder manufacturers were exporting to Sri Lanka, West Asian countries, and even to the U.S. by modifying the design according to the needs of the buyers in these countries.During the last two years, the manufacturers participated in buyer-seller meeting and food melas organised in the Northern States in the country and also in other countries such as Singapore and Malaysia.

With this the number of exporters had gone up and the market potential increased for the manufacturers here.The Coimbatore Wet Grinder and Accessories Manufacturers Association were in the process of setting up a common facility centre for its members with assistance under the cluster programme.The programme was implemented by the development institute.It had built the required infrastructure and was awaiting assistance from the Centre and State Governments to purchase machinery.The total project cost for the common facility centre was about Rs. 2 crore and the units would get Rs. 1 crore subsidy from the Centre and Rs. 15 lakh from the State Government.


The centre would help improve production and increase the market potential for these products.A release from the institute said Ponmani Industries here was selected for the National Award for Quality Products, given away by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in the Electric Wet Grinder Group for this year.
