No use of protect of Pollachi railway
Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu on Saturday ruled out constitution of a new railway zone in Kerala."Railway Minister Lalu Prasad himself had told this to the delegation from Kerala headed by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan," he told reporters after inspecting the ongoing developmental works here.A zone or division was formed based factors like workload, proximity, accessibility and administrative and operative reasons and not based on any regional or ethnic criteria, he added.
To a question, he said the controversy over the formation of Salem division was over.Referring to protests over the attaching of 79 kms railway route from Pollachi to Kinnathukadavu in Coimbatore district to Palakkad division, he said such agitations were 'unwarranted'.The undivided Palakkad division was having jurisdiction of 1132 kms and now after the formation of Salem division it will have only 623 kms and we should compensate the division to some extent, he added.
