Two-year-old Sabeena Parveen (with her mother) treated for Dysponea at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.Ear, nose, throat (ENT) specialists of Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) successfully saved the life of two-year-old Sabeena Parveen of Tirupur. She was admitted with complaints of Dysponea.CMCH Dean (in charge), V. Kumaran said the girl was first admitted to Tirupur Government Hospital with complaints of breathlessness (Dysponea). Later, she was rushed to CMCH.
Soon the left lung started functioning normally. On Tuesday, the baby was discharged.Dr. Kumaran lauded the team of doctors for the swift treatment that saved the girl. Resident Medical Officer, A. Angusamy said the CMCH has so far removed foreign bodies from 30 children in the last three years whereas the state average of such cases was only 30 over the last eight years.
On examination, the ENT specialists found that the left lung of the girl was dysfunctional. Suspecting the presence of a foreign body inside the trachea (wind pipe), ENT specialists, using bronchoscopy, found particles of betel nut in the wind pipe. Considering the age of the baby and her body condition, general anaesthesia was administered to her. A team of ENT specialists led by doctors K. Mothilal, Ali Sulthan, Professor of anaesthesia, K. Vijayalakhsmi, S. Sivakumar and assistant doctor, A. Jayesh did a minimal invasive procedure using bronchoscopy for over 150 minutes and eventually sucked out the particles.
