Accuist arrested after 28 years
The Coimbatore Rural Police have arrested Marappa Gounder, 70, in connection with a 28-year-old murder case.The special teams of the Coimbatore Rural Police secured him from a loom godown where he was employed at Chitode in Erode district.According to the police, Aruchamy of Panapatti in Negamam police limit, was murdered on July 16, 1979 owing to a dispute over space for cart track in the farm land. The police identified Nanjappa Gounder, Ramasamy, Mayilsamy, Chellappa Gounder and arrested them. The fifth accused Marappa Gounder was declared as absconding.In 1981, the court released the four accused and an arrest warrant against Marappa Gounder was pending.The Coimbatore Rural Superintendent of Police, G. Karthikeyan, constituted special teams to effect the warrant.After marathon investigation, the team traced the location of the accused and secured him.
