School timings reveised
In an attempt to ease congestion on roads, the district administration has revised the starting and closing timings of various schools on arterial roads such as Avanashi Road and Tiruchi Road. The timings for each school have been staggered in such a way that at any given point of time, roads were not flooded with vehicles plying towards schools or returning back home from schools.Hitherto, in the morning and evening, roads near school zones used to witness chaotic traffic because of the line-up of vehicles waiting to drop and pick up school children.
A large number of vehicles on the same road at a given point of time and parking of these vehicles led to traffic congestion, hence the decision to stagger the timings.A release from the District Collector, Neeraj Mittal, said that a meeting of principals of schools on both the roads was convened by the Chief Educational Officer wherein the suggestion for staggering the starting and closing time of schools was discussed in length.Taking into account the opinions voiced by all the schools, the timings of 12 schools on Tiruchi Road and seven schools on Avanashi Road have been revised.
With effect from October 11, the school starting time had been staggered with a gap of 10 to 15 minutes each and similarly the school closing time had also been staggered. The authorities have also requested the heads of institutions to ensure that not all students from all the classes were allowed to go out at the same time causing congestion on the roads. They have been asked to allow the students of various classes to go out in different batches.
