Stalin reviewed in Video conference

Stalin on Saturday reviewed the ongoing development works through video-conferencing. The Minister along with Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department Secretary K. Deenabandhu and Director of Town Panchayats Gopal held the videoconferencing from National Informatics Centre (NIC) at the Secretariat in Chennai and interacted with collectors of Coimbatore, Erode, Kanyakumari and Thanjavur.
Responding to a query from Mr. Stalin, Coimbatore Collector Neeraj Mittal said under Anna Renaissance Scheme for Town Panchayats Rs. 50 lakh each had been allocated to 13 of the 52 town panchayats, including Thenkarai, Pooluvampatti, Vettaikaranpudur, Odaiyakulam, Sankaramanallur and Alandurai town pachayats. In the coming years funds would be allocated to the remaining town panchayats.Mr. Mittal said Rs. 6.70 crore had been spent on 131 works in 13 town panchayats. When the Minister asked about the steps taken for creating rain water harvesting ponds/tanks, the Collector said places for creating such tanks/ponds were not available.Mr. Stalin asked for conducting another round of inspections to identify lands for such tanks/ponds.
The Minister also exhorted the Collectors to make sure that other departments were also roped in for utilising their schemes and funds for improving the infrastructure in town panchayats rather than merely banking on the funds from the Renaissance Scheme.Collector also informed the Minister that under the Phase II scheme, 21 drinking water supply works in eight town panchayats were being implemented at an outlay of Rs. 23.35 lakh besides provision of 100 street lights at Rs 5 lakh.Minister asked the officials to take up frequent inspections to ensure quality of the works.
