The Kasthuribai Ladies Association of Tatabad has appealed to the Centre to make the triple test compulsory in all hospitals. Secretary of the Association, Mahalaxmi Subramaniam, says that the test is done 90 days after pregnancy to detect congenital defects in children. But, not all hospitals are aware of this test. Due to ignorance, wrong medication during pregnancy and mental state of the parents, the ratio of the children being born with mental disabilities is rising, she says.
