Betel leaves, planted in an area of 110 acres in Vellalore, on the city outskirts, have been totally damaged due to the recent heavy rains.The loss was estimated to be around Rs.65 lakh, official sources said.The crop, raised by about 120 farmers, was damaged as overflowing water from Vellalore Tank flooded the land.Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N Palanisamy visited the area and assured the farmers that necessary relief would be provided, the sources said.
