Kavundampalayam hero

A leopard (Panthera pardus) that strayed into the residential area at Kavundampalayam in Coimbatore being removed by Forest Officials after tranquilising it on Monday.The Coimbatore District Forest Officials on Monday tranquilised and relocated a two-and-a-half-year-old female panther that strayed into human habitations at Angappa layout, near a private school, in Kavundampalayam area.The Conservator of Forests, Coimbatore Circle, R. Kannan, and District Forest Officer, I. Anwardeen deputed a team of forest officials led by Forest Veterinarian, N.S. Manoharan, for the job.

It is learnt that the animal strayed into a bushy location on the Edayarpalayam-Kavundampalayam Road, near the school, after attacking a herd of goats.Following an alarm raised by the owner of the goat, the panther stopped with the killing of one goat and escaped into a bush in an open area where a private firm had stocked pipes.On hearing the news, a large number of curious onlookers gathered in the area posing a tough time for the police who were trying to remove them to a safer place.A team led by Dr.Manoharan along with Forest Range Officer, A. Soundarrajan and Foresters LCS Rajkanth and M. Senthilkumar moved towards the panther in a jeep.Dr. Manoharan, using a blow dart pipe, tranquilised the animal from five meters.It was brought to the Mankarai reserve forests in a cage. After the animal revived from sedation, it was released into the jungles.
