Police advice for Diwali
The City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan, has requested the public to adhere to all safety precautions while using fire crackers during the Deepavali festival to make it accident free.In a release, Mr.Gandhirajan said that people should buy crackers only from licensed merchants. Children should be allowed to fire crackers only under adult supervision.Safety precautions printed on the crackers should be strictly adhered to, crackers should be lit only with incense sticks, crackers that go up in the air should be used only in grounds and safe places where there are no thatched houses.
The Commissioner also said that it would be advisable to keep a bucket of water and fire fighting gadgets ready.The public should desist from firing crackers that create more than 125 decibel noise.Firing of sound making crackers should be avoided from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.Crackers should not be held in hand while lighting them, avoid covering the crackers with boxes, avoid lifting and examining crackers if they fail after lighting them, crackers that go up in the air should be avoided near trees , electric wires and animals.Avoid use of crackers indoor and obstructing a thorough fare for the purpose of firing crackers should be avoided.
