Forest watcher died
A forest watcher who was trampled by an elephant near Sulur in the district on Tuesday died at a city hospital on Sunday.Perumal (50) was one of the forest department personnel involved in the efforts to drive back into the jungles four elephants that had entered human habitations and struck terror for three days.Amid such efforts at Appanaickenpatti on Tuesday evening, the elephants suddenly charged at the department personnel. Perumal was said to have been trampled by one of the elephants.He was rushed to a private hospital in the city where he underwent a surgery for serious injuries in the stomach and a fracture in the pelvis.The hospital sources said Perumal, who had sustained multiple internal injuries, died of cardio-respiratory arrest.
