Job fair for police kids

City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan briefing the children of police personnel at a job fair conducted for them at the Police Community Hall at Uppilipalayam on Friday.The Coimbatore City Police on Friday in association with an information technology firm Sutherland Global Services conducted a job fair at Police Community Hall for the children of police families.Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, C.K. Gandhirajan, Deputy Commissioners of Police P. Sugumar (Law and Order) and P. Nagarajan (Crime) along with officials from the firm took part.

Inaugurating the job fair, Mr. Gandhirajan said that police personnel seldom got time to ensure the welfare of their families or in ensuring education or employment for their children.Hence in the last 11 months, Mr. Gandhirajan said that he had made it a point to motivate the personnel by giving them cash rewards, awards and recognition entries in their service register.Motivation would actually make police personnel do better. This resulted in crime rate falling by 21 per cent in Coimbatore City and law and order related issues falling by 24 per cent.

There was a pertinent need to ensure the welfare of the families of the police personnel as well so that the personnel could focus their attention more on work, he said. Earlier candidates used to keep searching for employment opportunities but today the scenario had changed drastically.He exhorted the children of the police personnel to make good use of the opportunity. A total of 229 candidates appeared for the job fair. The Commissioner briefed the students on the opportunities awaiting them and the need to be well-qualified and skilled for grabbing these jobs that fetched them a handsome salary even at the starting stage of their career.

Mr. Nagarajan said that candidates who failed to qualify for selection in the first phase should not be dejected and added that more such fairs would be conducted till every child in the police family got a job.He said that utilising the welfare funds, Mr. Gandhirajan had ordered for roping in the services of English language teachers to enhance the fluency and proficiency of the students in the language to qualify them for a job.
