Traffic cops give first aid soon
Soon, the traffic cops here may play ‘Good Samaritan' as a three-day exclusive training on how to to accident victims comes on their way. Moreover, installing a ‘first aid box' in each traffic junction is also in the offing as part of the training, which saves the trouble of running for medicine on the spot.In fact, the city police here have received orders in this connection from the Office of the Director General of Police (DGP) on Tuesday. Sources said that the order was clear to train all the traffic policemen on first aid to act on emergency situations and reduce fatalities due to accidents.“Policemen need not wait for an ambulance during critical times. He himself can act and save a life during that ‘Golden Hour’,” said Commissioner of Police (CoP) C K Gandhirajan, while talking to this website’s newspaper. He added this would be an exclusive training for traffic policemen on a traffic angle. “Once the men are trained, they can give medicine and help those in need.
Besides this, they can also take lessons for drivers,'' the CoP added. The CoP remarked that they would also keep first aid boxes at all the traffic junctions. “We have just received the order. We need to discuss the cost of installing a first aid box and also ensure its safety,” Gandhirajan said and added that they would be looking for some sponsors too. There are around 370 traffic policemen, including two assistant commissioners, inspectors and sub-inspectors. They will be trained batch-wise, with around 35 per batch. And each batch will get training for three days.“Their absence from the spot will be compensated by deputing police personnel from either Armed Reserve or Home Guards,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoharan and added the training would be given in the lean hours when traffic was free.“The training covers all the do's and don'ts at an accident spot,”he added.Police are on the look out for tie-ups with hospitals who could offer better training.
