District Collector Neeraj Mittal at the Observation Home for the inauguration of the project of Rotaract Clubs of Coimbatore and GE in Coimbatore on Thursday.Children of the Observation Home in Coimbatore took the authorities of the home by surprise when they shared their woes with District Collector Neeraj Mittal. The Collector visited the home to inaugurate a project of Rotaract Clubs of Coimbatore and GE on Thursday. The children said they were not given more than one set of clothes. Some of them were not even given toothbrushes and soaps. The clothes, gifts and games sponsored by non-Governmental organisations and donors had not been passed on to them, the children alleged.

The Collector warned the authorities of the home that action would be initiated against them if the situation was not improved. He also said he would visit the home without prior information to check on the affairs of the home. He ordered for the immediate release of two children detained in the home for more than three months. The children had not committed any offence and were kept in the home because of the lack of interest shown by the authorities. He said organisations such as the Rotaract Clubs could build a computer laboratory for the children. The Rotaract Clubs of Coimbatore, along with the volunteers of GE, donated three computers to the home. The members of the club and volunteers of GE would also conduct computer training programmes for the children of the home, said J. Sathish Kumar, District Rotaract Representative and Life Member of Juvenile Home.A computer laboratory would also be constructed at the home, he added. The youth volunteers were also regularly conducting yoga, meditation, stitching and envelope-making programmes for the children.
