Motor cycle patrols

Five motorcycle patrols flagged off on Monday by the City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan, as part of the crime prevention initiative. City Police Commissioner, C.K. Gandhirajan on Monday flagged off five motor cycle patrols for stepping up visible policing and vigil in crime prone pockets and far flung remote residential localities.Deputy Commissioners of Police, P. Sugumar (Law and Order), S. Manoharan (Traffic) took part in a function got up at the City Police for flagging off the motorcycle patrols.As part of the crime prevention measures through stepped up and visible policing, the City Police have already inducted 32 motor cycle patrols as Crime Stopper Squad and Anti-Chain Snatching Squad.

The objective of the motor cycle patrols would be to patrol crime prone pockets to keep criminal elements at bay. These motorcycle patrol members were equipped with torch light, VHF walkie-talkie sets, cellular phone and a pistol.The idea behind motorcycle patrols were to reach out to even smaller lanes, by lanes which could not be reached by police jeeps and places that had easy hide-outs.In addition to the 32 motorcycle patrols already existing with the city police, the officials have added up another five new motorcycles on Monday for patrolling the crime prone and remote residential localities in Peelamedu and Saravanampatty police limits.
