The Coimbatore Fort Tamil Nadu Housing Board residents Coordination Committee has decided to stage a demonstration on February 1 to draw the attention of the Government towards the plight of residents. The coordinators of the committee told reporters here on Friday that residents evicted from the multi-storeyed dwelling units should be provided with houses at the same place. Preliminary works for the construction of the same, including finalisation of contractor and preparation and approval of plan, should be done immediately. The structures being constructed now should be earthquake-resistant and every resident should get a minimum living space of 400 sq ft.Those residing on poromboke lands near these old structures should be provided with houses.
