Coimbatore Police Role

With the advent of summer vacation and residents leaving on a holiday following the closure of schools and colleges, the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali has ordered for patrolling crime-prone pockets on foot. Talking to reporters, Mr. Mahali said that this would be in addition to the night beat marching, lurking beats, patrolling by jeep, motorcycle and cycles. In every police station, there would be a five-member team patrolling every lane and bylane and the team would comprise two police personnel, one watchman, one home guard and a volunteer from the friends of the police.

This drive is expected to help substantially in bringing down the crime rate through proactive preventive measures rather than reacting to incidents of crime, the Commissioner of Police said. Peelamedu police are investigating into a complaint by Patrick Merman regarding the alleged theft/misplacement of passport of a Belgium national. It is learnt that Patrick Mermans, who came on a business trip to Coimbatore stayed in a hotel on Avanashi Road near Peelamedu. While getting ready to leave for Belgium, it is learnt that the foreigner noticed his passport missing.


Race Course Police have arrested Souras (21), hailing from Harur in Dharmapuri district employed as a delivery boy in a courier firm on charges having stolen 200 prepaid cellular phone SIM cards from a consignment. Based on a complaint from the courier firm manager, the police arrested Souras and the SIM cards have been recovered. The former AIADMK MLA, Rohini alias P.R. Krishnakumar along with four others appeared before the Judicial Magistrate Court Number VII in an assault case and subsequently went on bail.


It may be recalled that on April 7, clash took place between two groups over the issue of blocking an approach road to a burial ground. Based on a complaint from two persons Balakrishnan and Ravindran of Podanur filed a case against the former MLA and four of his supporters for unlawful assembly, causing hurt.


Based on a complaint from Mr. Rohini Krishnakumar, a case was registered against the duo. In connection with the case, the former MLA along with his four supporters and the opposite parties surrendered before the magistrate and later went on bail. Two unidentified students in the age group of 12-14 were found dead under suspicious circumstances in a tank at Nagarajapuram beyond Verakeralam in Thondamuthur area on Tuesday evening. The cloths of the victims were found lying on the banks. Police are investigating to ascertain the identity of the victims.
