A clean environs programme is being carried out in the town panchayats in the district, according to a press release from Assistant Director of Town Panchayats C. Jayaraman. The release said Director of Town Panchayats K. Gopal had announced on the World Environment Day on June 5 that an intensive sanitation programme would be carried out in all town panchayats in the State from June 9 to 15. Following this, a Sanitation Week was being observed in these local bodies in the district. The programme aimed at 100 per cent door-to-door collection of garbage. It would focus on cleaning storm water drainsand repairs to streetlights.
