International Convention on Ayurveda

An international convention on Ayurveda will be held here from August 22 to 24 to mark the centenary celebrations of Arya Vaidyan P.V. Rama Varier. The event will also have ‘Arogya 2008,’ an expo on this Indian system of medicine, the Arya Vaidya Pharmacy here says. The convention aims to project Ayurveda as a globalising tradition. The convention will focus on the potential contributions Ayurveda can make in the areas of geriatrics, chronic metabolic disorders and nutrition.

The organisers express the hope that the deliberations at the convention will lead to three concrete outcomes: a plan for applying Ayurveda to healthcare in these specialty areas, initiating collaborative research programs at the national or international level and setting up a national centre for these specialty areas through public-private partnership programmes.

The convention will bring together medicine manufacturers, panchakarma centres, educational institutions, research institutes, manufacturers of treatment equipment and industry accessories, publishers, wellness centres, multimedia groups, medicinal plant promoters, non-Governmental organisations, the food, cosmetics and software industries, insurance companies, health and fitness concerns, laboratories, marketing and public relations logistics groups on a common business platform.

Panel discussions will be held on key topics such as Ayurvedic pedagogy, science in the context of Ayurveda for global acceptance, Ayurveda and biotechnology, health and illness, global challenges and Ayurvedic solutions and trans-cultural perception and regulatory issues. A series of pre-convention workshops will be held ahead of the meet to bring together experts and budding Ayurvedic physicians for orientation.
