Recharge Farm Wells Scheme

District Collector V. Palanikumar discussing in Coimbatore on Monday with farmers’ representatives and Public Works Department officials the scheme to recharge farm wells. The district administration is keen on speeding up the process of providing subsidy to farmers to put up rain water harvesting structures at the open wells in their farms.
District Collector V. Palanikumar said this on Monday at a meeting of the District-level Implementation and Monitority Committee formed to carry out the scheme for the recharging of farm wells. Officials from the Public Works Department and representatives of farmers’ associations participated. Under the scheme, farmers owning up to five acres would get a Centre-State subsidy of Rs. 4,000.
Those who had more than five acres would get Rs.2,000. The scheme would help in recharging 70,000 open wells in the following panchayat unions in the district: Annur, Avanashi, Karamadai, Kinathukadavu, Periyanaickenpalayam, Sarkarsamakulam, Thondamuthur, Madukkarai, Kudimangalam, Udumalpet, Pollachi South, Pollachi West, Pongalur, Palladam, Sulur and Sultanpet.The Collector said though the number of wells was 70,000, the list of beneficiaries showed only 2,500 so far. Therefore, Village Administrative Officers should speed up the process of receiving applications from eligible farmers and forwarding them to the authorities concerned for the release of the subsidy. A meeting with the farmers’ associations in the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project ayacut would also be held to discuss the scheme.
