BU's Free Seat
Deserving and meritorious students who have joined the undergraduate programme in any of the colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University can apply to avail of free seats under the ‘free education’ scheme of the university. According to a university release, each college of the university as well as the departments of the university will offer 10 free seats each. This will be open to post-graduate students too.Candidates should be either orphans, or widows, or wards of widows / divorcees, or individuals from families having income less than Rs. 2,000 a month, or from poor agricultural families. “Minimum number of seats will be 10 a college. Extra seats will be at the discretion of the college. Everything will be provided free to the students. Only the examination fee will have to be borne by the student,” Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam said.
Those interested can apply by downloading applications from the university website http://www.b-u.ac.in/. Filled-in applications should reach the respective colleges by July 18 addressed to the principal. It should be accompanied by relevant documents. Those who have already been admitted under the free seat quota are not eligible to apply.The colleges will shortlist and select candidates after counselling.
