Competition:
The Coimbatore District Sports and Games Welfare Association will conducts an inter-school children’s instrumental music competition and drawing competition on August 9 at Shree Baldevdas Kikani Vidyamandir Higher Secondary School.It will include keyboard, violin, mrudangam, ghatam, veena, and tabla.Students from classes LKG to XII can participate.The last date for receiving entries is July 31. Power Shutdown:
Power supply to the following places will not be available on July 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. owing to maintenance works at the Devarayapuram substation:

Modern Tool Room:
The Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association has started works for a Rs. 15-crore modern tool room here for the general engineering industries. The association president G. Rajendran has said in a release that the project is a joint initiative of the Central Government, State Government and the association. The State Government has given 50 cents and Rs. 1.21 crore for the project. The industries’ contribution is Rs. 4 crore and the Centre has extended Rs. 10 crore assistance.
Machinery would be imported and the association would employ a team of experts and equip the Centre with a design studio. The association has already established a tool room at Avarampalayam here for pump, motor and foundry units. The tool room would have 23,000 sq.ft of industrial space and be able to accommodate heavy machines on the first floor too. The works would be completed in six months, he said.
HIV Forum:
Doctors from Coimbatore have formed an HIV Forum.According to a press release issued here, the newly-established forum will work towards the betterment of people who are living with HIV/AIDS.Pharmaceutical company, Cipla, has offered to help the forum by providing information about the disease.The forum has decided to provide medication to HIV positive people at affordable cost.
Online Service:
Efectra Software Private Limited will launch an online service for the apparel and fashion industry. A release from the company said the service called Zukku ( www.myzukku.com) would be launched on July 18 at the Garment Technology Expo 2008 to be held in Bangalore. The supply chain collaboration and tracking system helped buyers, buying houses, retailers and wholesalers connect to their suppliers. It was an enterprise portal that featured Web 2.0 usability.
Rice Seized:
The Flying Squad officials of the district administration have intercepted a truck near Udumalpet and seized 200 bags of rice meant for distribution under the Public Distribution System (PDS), which was being smuggled to Kerala.The team led by the Flying Squad Tahsildar, V. Subramanian, intercepted the lorry near Madathukulam after a hot chase. Investigations are on to ascertain the consignor and consignee.
