Man Held:
A special team of the Coimbatore Rural Police on Thursday arrested Murugan (30) of Virudhunagar, a former employee of a poultry farm at Anamalai near Pollachi, in connection with the murder of a woman and her daughter. Meena (35) and her daughter Selvi (18), resident workers of the poultry farm, were found lying in a pool of blood on July 5. Investigating teams suspected the hand of the former employee, who had been dismissed for sexually harassing the girl. On interrogation, Murugan confessed to the crime.
Trekking expedition:
The Tamil Nadu Region of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in association with the Youth Hostels Association of India is organising a trekking expedition in the Nilgiris from July 25 to August 1. A release said the expedition would be in tune with the reinforced policy of the ESIC to exploit sports and allied activities as a publicity medium to enhance its brand image.On July 26, the Superintendent of Police, the Nilgiris, A.G. Babu, would flag off the expedition.
IT Raid:
Officials from the Income Tax Department conducted search operations in over 15 places in the hosiery town of Tirupur on Thursday. Inquiries revealed that simultaneous raids were conducted by the Investigation and Enforcement Departments at real estate business offices and houses. The names and identity of persons subjected to search operations and other details regarding seizures of documents were kept confidential.
