Elected:
The following have been elected office bearers of the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India, Coimbatore, for 2008-2009: J. Sridhar (chairman), P.K. Jayaram (vice-chairman), Meena Ramji (secretary) and S. Subbaraman (treasurer).
Award:
Ilango Adigal Ilakiya Mandram conducts Silappathikara Vizha every year. An award and a trophy is given to a person for his contribution to Tamil Literature. The Tamil Thatha U.V. Saminatha Aiyar award, instituted by Shri Krishna Sweets, for the year 2008 will be given to S. Ganapathi Raman on July 12, according to a release from the Mandram’s secretary. This is the Silver Jubilee year for the Mandram.
Accident:
A 45-year-old brick kiln worker, who was sitting on a bricks laden truck, was killed when the vehicle fell on its side at TVS Nagar on Thadagam Road on Saturday. The driver, Kadiravan (24) and two women head load workers, Chellammal (45) and Ponnammal (50), escaped with injuries. It is learnt that the truck was on its way from Chinna Thadagam to Vadavalli when the accident took place.
