Faculty Excellence Award

Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathiar University, said here recently.
Giving away the Faculty Excellence Awards to 16 faculty members of the RVS College of Arts and Science, he appreciated the initiative of the college management in recognising the efforts of teachers. He particularly stressed upon three important parameters, namely, teaching effectiveness, research efforts and extension services. “Teachers should ensure that education should be application-based and job-oriented. Practical hours should not only mean laboratory hours, but also include industry visits and other such outdoor activities. Student-centric teaching should be highlighted,” the Vice-Chancellor asserted. He lamented that the syllabi of many courses remained the same for the past 25 years. “All of them have to be updated in tune with current developments.”
He spoke about the setting up of a Centre for Basic Sciences at the university to create awareness about the diversity and future of higher education in science. He also made a mention of the measures made by the university to streamline and encourage the affiliated colleges in providing good services to its students.The Vice-Chancellor gave away the awards, which included a citation, a purse and a trophy. Three subject-based books authored by faculty members were released on the occasion.Managing Trustee of RVS Educational Trust K. Senthil Ganesh, and Secretary of the Trust H. Newman, spoke.
