KCT Acquired Virtual Garmenting
The Department of Fashion Technology of the Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) has acquired a centre for virtual garmenting for computer-aided apparel designing.The Mehala-Assyst Bullmer Centre for Excellence for Virtual Garmenting was inaugurated at the college on Monday by Thomas Baur, Vice-President, Assyst Bullmer Spezialmachinen GmbH & Co, KG of Germany.The centre is promoted by Bullmer and Mehala Machines India Limited, Tirupur.It is equipped with the state-of-the-art software and hardware for designing and engineering apparels.
The 2D software, CAD Assyst and 3D software Vidya have been provided for the students. The basic infrastructure has been made available by the college management.Inaugurating the centre, Mr. Baur said: “The software is a time saver, particularly for exporters. It gives a real time analysis on the designing of product. Designer and buyer can interact through video conferencing about the status and quality of design with the held of the software. Students who use the facilities in the centre will find themselves easily adapting to the industry.”
The 3D Vidya software used for rapid prototyping and constructing garments virtually enabled the designer and manufacturer to analyse the performance of garment in different postures and to simulate its behaviour in actual usage conditions. The analysis of garment performance with respect to fabric properties in the designing stage facilitated the manufacturer to forestall the possible defects while manufacture.M. Balasubramaniam, Correspondent of KCT, said such partnerships would ensure the employability of students.
“KCT is already involved in more than 25 programmes for rural women in areas of designing and tailoring to make them employable. This centre will also extend its services to them”.He said students would have a cutting edge when they stepped out into the apparel industry after hands-on training on the 3D garmenting software.S.
