Detained Under Goondas Act :
The City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali, has ordered the detention of R. Manikandan (22) of Papanaickenpalayam under Goondas Act for one year. It is learnt that Manikandan was involved in waylaying and robbing H. Asankuthoos of Sowripalayam Main Road at Papanaickenpalayam bus stop on August 14, relieving the victim of Rs. 300 cash at knife point and had intimidated the public also. Mr. Mahali and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), K. Thondiraj constituted special teams, led by Inspector T.K.K. Senthilkumar, to nab the accused .Senthilkumar, who was found to be a habitual offender, was involved in various cases of two-wheeler lifting. Hence, the decision to detain him under the Goondas Act.

Road Blockade :
Residents of Kakkan Nagar in Vellalore were removed by the police when they staged a road blockade on Thursday in protest against the move to open a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation-run liquor shop in the area. Similarly, residents of No. 10 Muthur near Kinathukkadavu staged a road blockade against the functioning of a TASMAC-run liquor shop.
Prisoner Died :
Nagarajan (52) of Paramathivelu in Namakkal district, a life convict in a murder case lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison, died at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Thursday. It is learnt that the prisoner lodged at Coimbatore Central Prison was admitted to the hospital and was under treatment for quite some time due to suspected cancer.
