Literacy Campaign For Conservancy Workers
The Coimbatore District Valar Kalvi Centres have begun a literacy campaign for conservancy workers.The campaign that commenced on Independence Day aims at imparting literacy to the conservancy workers of panchayats, municipalities, corporations and town panchayats.The classes would be conducted in the evenings for the workers.
The District Collector V.Palanikumar exhorted the elected representatives of the local bodies to ensure that every conservancy worker is enrolled in the programme.The Valar Kalvi co-ordinators have been asked to enumerate the conservancy workers’ families in every local body. Valar Kalvi would provide notebooks and other educational aids.Valar Kalvi has also planned to conduct literacy campaigns in tribal hamlets from August 15 to September 8.The same would be carried out in slums as well, Mr.Palanikumar said.
