'Samaskrita Darsanam ' - By Amrita School Students

'Samaskrita Darsanam’ organised by students of Amrita Vidyalayam Matriculation School, Nallampalayam, in Coimbatore on Independence Day. Students of Amrita Vidyalayam Matriculation School, Nallampalayam, got a taste of patriotism, environment protection and tradition on Independence Day.

In order to make appropriate use of the day, the authorities had planned activities that involved participation from students, teachers and parents. The programme began with flag hoisting, followed by planting saplings on school premises. The highlight of the day was the exhibition “Samaskrita Darsanam” organised by students. The theme was “Knowing the Past in the Present to Safeguard the Country in the Future.”Students had come out with meaningful charts and models to depict the theme at the exhibition, which was inaugurated by Brahmachari Sundar Acharya, in-charge of Chinmaya Mission, Coimbatore. Some had also made use of portraits to portray characters from the past.

Nearly 600 students had participated in organising the exhibition, which had over 250 exhibits.Says principal Jayashree Badrinath: “Youngsters are not aware of what treasures the country holds today. How are they going to be aware of what was there yesterday. The exhibition was to bring to the fore the rich traditions of the country. It is to make the students understand that there are so many achievements and scientific concepts that have been developed even before the advent of the British, which they are not aware of.”

The icing on the cake was the 10-minute documentary on “Traditions of India 2,000 years ago” brought out by students of high school and higher secondary with the help of school headmistress R. Sivakami.Parents came in large numbers to encourage the efforts of their children. “They wanted such exhibitions to be held on a regular basis,” Ms. Badrinath adds.
