YHH Organise Spl Programme

Youth Helping Hands (YHH), a network of college students working for the uplift of children living in orphanages will organise special programmes on Independence Day. About 500 children from orphanages all over Coimbatore are expected to take part. The focus of the celebration will be on disability, said R.Arun, Founder Member of Youth Helping Hands. Children with physical disability living in orphanages were left to deal with a slew of problems including lack of adequate medical attention, surroundings that were not disabled-friendly and the absence of basic facilities.

Most often, they were not given the kind of opportunities that children without disabilities got, Mr.Arun observed. The programme would include dance and music. Volunteers from YHH had already started training children with disabilities at various orphanages in group dance and music. The entire expense involved in putting the event together was borne by the college students themselves. Ever since the network was formed, it has had an overwhelming response from the youth. Many people want to extend help to disadvantaged children, but are not sure how to do so.

We act as a link between those who wish to extend help and those who need it,” Mr. Arun said. The YHH was also working on a short film on the lives of children living in orphanages, which would be released in January next year. The Independence Day celebration programme would be held at Podanur. Those who wish to sponsor the event or extend help to the network could contact Mr.Arun at 9345559815.
