7.69 Cr Sanctioned For Development
The State Government has sanctioned Rs. 7.69 crore for development works in 13 town panchayats in the district. The works are to be carried out under the Anna Marumalarchi Thittam for town panchayats, according to a press release from the district administration.Totally, 135 development works such as tar roads, drinking water supply and drainage (see table) will be carried out.
The town panchayats chosen for works in the current financial year are Suleswaranpatti, Zamin Uthukuli, Thondamuthur, Perur, Samalapuram, Othakalmandapam, Ettimadai, Sarcarsamakulam, Madukkarai, Anamalai, Madathukulam, Thirumalayampalayam and Vedapatti. The release said that the scheme, launched in September last year, aimed at covering 561 town panchayats in four years. Every year, 140 town panchayats were being covered. The works were being done to provide basic amenities to the people in the town panchayats and help improve the living conditions in these local bodies.
Of the 52 town panchayats in Coimbatore district, 13 were covered last year with an outlay of Rs. 6.76 crore, the release said. The projects were 13 tar roads, 31 concrete roads, 11 community halls, 15 drinking water supply, eight office buildings, nine drainage works and improvements to 11 burial grounds. The release said 30 other works relating to development were also carried out. Apart from the allocation under this scheme, 278 works were done with about Rs. 9 crore provided by various departments.
