35 Sovereigns Recovered :

The Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police have resolved three cases of house breaking and have recovered 35 sovereigns of gold jewellery from an ex-convict.On July 6, Sivaraj (38), a goldsmith of Telugu Brahmin Street had gone out with his family in the evening and on his return, he found the doors broken open and Rs. 2 lakh worth of 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery missing. Variety Hall Road Police registered a case. Similarly on August 2, burglars broke into the house of Rangaraj and Krishnaveni in P&T Quarters on NSR Road in Sai Baba Colony and decamped with two sovereigns of gold jewellery worth Rs. 16,000.

Sai Baba Colony police registered a case. On August 30 midnight, the goldsmith workshop of Suresh was broke open and Rs. 32,000 worth four sovereigns of gold jewellery was looted.The City Police Commissioner, K.C. Mahali, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), K. Thondiraj, ordered constitution of special teams. Special teams led by Assistant Commissioner, M. Annadurai zeroed in on an ex-convict and a known depredator in police records Guna alias Gunasekaran (38) of Mill Road and recovered 35 sovereigns of gold jewellery from him. The ex-convict and a known depredator was remanded to judicial custody.

Detained :

City Police Commissioner K.C. Mahalai has ordered the detention of R. Ramesh of Ondipudur under Goondas Act for a period of one year. Ramesh was arrested by the police on June 21 on charges of waylaying and robbing K. Mohanraj of Puliakulam at knife point. He was already involved in cases of waylaying and pocket picking in Race Course and Kattoor police limits. Since the accused had taken to crime as his career, decision to detain him, the police press release added.

Penalty levied :

The District Collector, V. Palanikumar, has announced that 55 lorries were intercepted and a penalty of Rs. 15.43 lakhs had been collected from truck operators for attempting to smuggle sand to neighbouring States. Government Order No.158 of Industries Department clearly prohibits transportation of sand to neighbouring States.
