Coimbatore Passport Office Indirect Employment

The opening of a passport office in Coimbatore has spelt something good for a few physically challenged persons in terms of employment and rehabilitation. Talking to ‘reporter', the Passport Officer, Coimbatore, B. Balamurugan, said that through the District Rehabilitation Officer, C. Jasmine, initially two persons with disabilities would be getting indirect employment. They would be provided with a laptop for online filling of forms and downloading them for the applicants.

They would be able to earn a minimum of Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 8,000 a month, the official said. This would also help in eliminating brokers and touts, he added. Applicants were advised not to approach brokers who assure to get the passport process expedited. In case of any difficulties, they could always approach the Passport Officer himself or the Superintendents C.G. Rajendran and V. Kumar Raja who were the granting authorities. Efforts were on to increase the staff strength and to open more counters,.

On Thursday, seven students of St. Jude’s Public School and Junior College, Kotagiri, who will be on a tour to Malaysia and Singapore had approached the office seeking early issue of passports. He said that on verification of the papers and if the documents were intact, passports would be issued within two to three working days.
