Continuous Lok Adalat Held
Judge of Madras High Court P. Murugesan (right), at a continuous Lok Adalat held at the District Sessions Court in Coimbatore on Sunday. The Continuous Lok Adalats conducted at Tirupur, Udumalpet, Pollachi and Coimbatore on Saturday and Sunday led to the settlement of 220 cases. About Rs. 1.85 crores was awarded as compensation and settlements. Coimbatore District Legal Services Authority chairman and Principal District Sessions Judge, G. Chockalingam organised the lok adalat. High Court judges, Justice M. Jayapaul and Justice P. Murugesan (Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court) presided over the adalats. They dealt with pending cases relating to motor vehicle accident claims, family disputes, divorce petitions, Hindu Marriage Act petitions, civil suites, petitions seeking maintenance allowance and cheque bounces under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
At the adalat held at Tirupur on Saturday, as many as 84 cases were settled awarding compensation and settlements to a tune of Rs 1.28 crores. In Udumalpet 42 cases were disposed and Rs. 15.15 lakhs was awarded towards claims. In Pollachi, 19 cases were settled and Rs. 8.75 lakhs was awarded towards compensation and settlements. In Coimbatore, 75 cases were disposed awarding settlement and compensation of Rs 32.94 lakhs.
