Students have their faces painted at the facial painting contest in in the city. With more than 19 competitions lined up for the participants, ‘Neo Fusion,’ an interschool talent competition hosted by Shri Nehru Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School here recently, was an opportunity for most students to get in touch with the creative side of their personality.

Starting from word games to more complex literary adventures such as ‘find the word’ in French, the competition had something for everybody. Dance (both solo and group), music, rangoli, mehndi designing, mathematic puzzle-solving, chess, cookery, wealth from waste, calligraphy, face and pot painting and web designing were some of the competitions. As intended, events such as treasure hunt were a phenomenal hit among the participants. So were the dance items. Students thronged the room ear-marked for the dance events, cheering loudly and encouraging their team-mates.

It was only for students from Standard IX to Plus-Two, who were further divided into Group I (Standards IX and X) and II (Plus-One and Plus-Two). Competitions for teachers were organised too. They had to write an essay on the contribution of teachers towards making India a super-power in English, Hindi or Tamil.

The oratorical competitions had relevant topics such as “Effect of price hike on the middle class” and “My opinion on nuclear power for India.” Another speech competition involved making a short speech on a personality or situation given on the spot. The participant should not stammer, pause or repeat words. They should not use more than one language in the speech. SBOA Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, won the over all championship.
