Golu At SBI Main Branch
Sep 30 is the quarterly accounts closing day for banks, but the staff at the State Bank of India, Coimbatore main branch, were bubbling with enthusiasm. Not because there would be no customers that day, but because the Navarathri festival had begun and the employees had put up a ‘golu’ and ‘sundal’ and sweet pongal were part of the menu, reports S Sujatha from Coimbatore. Adding to the glitter of the five-step golu was the rangoli specially done by the women. The golu at Rajshree Ford is also set up at the entrance to catch the attention of customers as they enter the showroom. This also has five steps and has a cricket set that attracts everyone including children. “When customers bring their family along, children get attracted to the golu and spend time watching it. Moreover, the golu adds colour to the showroom,” said sales manager of Rajshree Ford N Govindarajan. He said that the showroom has been celebrating golu for the last four years.
“Apart from the cost of the doll, we haven’t spent anything to arrange this golu,” he said. SBI main branch has been keeping golu for more than ten years now. “Our canteen makes sundal and we don’t have any other expenditure,” Ms Premalatha said. AA Rajasekher, DGM, SBI main branch, Coimbatore, said celebrating such functions add to the camaraderie in the office. “There is staff involvement and occasions like this helps them come together,” he said.
