Siruthuli plans to celebrate Coimbatore Day on November 24
Siruthuli ( is an initiative started by Coimbatoreans for Coimbatoreans) plans to celebrate “Coimbatore Day” on November 24 annually from this year. Coimbatore was elevated as district headquarters 105 Years ago, On November 24, 1804.
The Siruthuli had gathered some of the facts of the city, which would be distributed to the public. It had also appealed to the hotels and retailers to display “Coimbatore Day” information and have something special for the customers on that day. The organisation planned to organise more programmes next year on “Coimbatore Day”.
Rajesh Govindarajulu, Siruthuli's Coimbatore Day coordinator told that a quiz would be organised at the PSG Institute of Medical Sciences Auditorium for the public on November 23 at 3.15 p.m., on the history of the city, layouts and city plan, infrastructure, landmarks, contributions of its eminent citizens, environment and heritage.
Participants should register in teams of three each and six teams would be selected for the finals. Prizes would be given to the top three scorers in the finals. The contest would also have three consolation prizes and prizes for the audience.
Coimbatore was recognised as a gateway to the Nilgiris and Kerala and it used to have just a few thousand families living here with good infrastructure. “Our focus again is on maintaining the infrastructure and environment conservation,” he said. The quiz was one way of transferring knowledge regarding the city from one generation to the next. There would be no age limit for the participants.
Such a celebration would promote friendliness among the citizens and would be an event for everyone in the city. Invites would be given to all associations here. It was also proposed to have a guest lecture on that day, he said.
