TNAU's Farm Labourers In Strike
Over 800 farm labourers in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAUI) today began a sit-in strike, demanding other things, regularisation of those daily wage earners who have completed more than 10 years. The decision to go on strike was taken at a meeting, which demanded that the wages for daily wagers should be hiked with immediate effect and the workers, who have completed 10 years should be made permanent, TNAU sources said.
The workers, also squatted in front of the office of Vice-Chancellor for a while and raised slogans in support of their demands. Other demands included the weekly offs on Saturdays, the sources said, adding that the strike was likely to continue tomorrow also, as the talks between union leaders and TNAU authorities remained inconclusive.
