Cable War Continues Still In Coimbatore

Shattering the hopes of the public that the much publicised reunion of the Maran brothers with DMK chief M Karunanidhis family would end the tussle among cable TV operators in the state, members of the Coimbatore District Cable TV Operators Association (CCTVOA), attached to the Sun Network- owned Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV), demanded criminal action against the Arasu Cable TV operators for snapping and damaging their cables in the city.


The CCTVOA members gathered inside the district collectorate and demanded action, shouting slogans against the owners of the local ABC network beaming Arasu Cable TV signals to its operators in the district.C M Rajendran, district secretary of CCTVOA, told espite lodging several complaints against ABC and its cable operators for cutting cables and tampering with optical fibre cables of SCV, the police have not taken any action. Meanwhile, Chennai headquartered Federation of Cable TV Associations (South India) supported CCTVOA calling for stern against ABC alleging that ABC stole signals from Sun DTH. At a meeting with Arasu Cable TV managing director Uma Shankar refently, CCTVOA had expressed its willingness to join the government owned network provided it telecast pay channels like Sun TV, Star TV, Zee TV and ESPN.



When contacted, P Krishnakumar, district coordinator of Tamil Nadu Cable Operators Welfare Association, representing both Arasu Cable and ABC countered CCTVOA allegation saying: Already we have sent petitions to the Chief Minister requesting him to take criminal action against SCV for instigating their operators to disturb other operators.Police have not taken action against SCV
