Flesh Trade At Gandipuram Bustand
The Corporation officials on Friday night along with revenue and police officials conducted checks at the retiring room of the Coimbatore Corporation at the Gandhipuram bus stand following complaints that they were being used for anti-social, unlawful activities including flesh trade.
A team of officials comprising Revenue Divisional Officer M. Balachandran, Inspector of Police V. Thangadurai led by Corporation Commissioner Anshul Mishra raided the retiring room. Five commercial sex workers were handed over to the police. Mr. Anshul Mishra found that the contractor who had taken the maintenance of retiring room on contract was not maintaining the register properly.
The officials also seized a surveillance camera attached to a small monitor that was used by the contractor for watching the movement of officials, police outside the retiring room so as to carry on the unlawful activities safely. Officials have initiated measures to cancel the contract for maintenance of the retiring room and place the subject before the council for taking further decision.
