Group Clash In Vettakaranpudur
A little over 100 persons were arrested on Monday for their involvement in a group clash in Vettakaranpudur, near Pollachi in the district, following the picketing over the rumours over polio deaths, on Sunday night. According to police sources, the car of a person belonging to Kongu Velalaru Peravai was reportedly blocked by agitating Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) workers over the polio deaths.
When the person questioned the reason, he was allegedly pushed by some activists, which resulted in fisticuffs, leading to clash and pelting of stones by two groups on Sunday night in which five police men and 30 others were injured. Some banners belonging to both the groups were burnt in the melee. However, the situation was brought under control after some time, police said. Police have registered cases against more than 500 persons and arrested 60 persons belonging to Peravai and 52 VCK activists, the sources said.
