Join Together To Help Person With Disability

L. Sivasamy, the Assistant Director of Employment Exchange, Coimbatore, has stressed the need for collaboration between Government bodies, voluntary organisations, and the private sector to identify the jobs and provide need-based training to augment employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.


He was participating in the World Disability Day celebration organised by the UDIS Forum at CSI Bishop Appasamy College recently. Representatives from the sector said that the private sector was opening up to include people with disabilities. There were more employment opportunities for persons with disabilities now compared with the situation a few years ago.



K.G Apparels, Renga Apparels India, and V Serve Solution were given mementoes at the function for employing maximum number of persons with disabilities. Prize winners of district and national-level essay competition spoke. Mrinalini David, principal of CSI Bishop Appasamy College, gave away the prizes.



M.N.G. Mani, president, UDIS Forum, said that the Youth Wing on Disability Services (YWDIS) consisting of college students in Coimbatore was very active in taking up disability issues to schools and the community. The forum would take steps for the formation of such youth wings in different parts of Tamil Nadu.



College students, parents, and persons with disabilities attended the function. The president of the YWDIS Subrajeet Choudhury from the GRD College of Science, and Navaneethakrishnan from Krishna Arts and Science College took part. People should come forward to help the disabled in order to ensure road safety, City Police Commissioner K.C.Mahali has said.



Speaking at the World Disability Day function organised by The United Physically Handicapped School, he stressed the importance of helping the disabled achieve greater heights. Students from other schools and colleges, film and television artistes and the general public participated in the festivities which included magic show, music and other cultural events and sports. The school at Kurumbapalayam offers shelter to more than 110 orphaned children with disabilities. They are educated and given vocational training too. Premamalini Vasan, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, presided over the function and distributed prizes to the children.
